In short
Gozo has a mild Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Most travel sites name May, June, September and October as the best months because weather, sea, crowds and prices fit together best. Many extend this to April through October for anyone who does not need beach weather.
| Time | Weather | Sea | Crowds |
|---|---|---|---|
| December to February | Mild, wetter, green | Cool | Low |
| March to May | April and May often 18 to 22 degrees | Cool, noticeably warmer in May | Rising |
| June to August | July and August on average 27 to 29 degrees, sometimes above 32 | Warm, roughly 26 degrees | High |
| September to November | September about 25 degrees, November about 22 degrees | Warm into October | Falling |
Winter (December to February)
Days are mild but wetter. The rainiest months are January, November and December. The landscape is green and hardly any tourists are around. The sea is cool, so swimming is for the hardy. Some boat tours and restaurants run a reduced schedule or take a break. Hikers and culture travellers find quiet paths and empty sights. Divers come in winter too, with a thicker suit.

Spring (March to May)
Fresh nature, wildflowers and pleasant hiking. In April and May temperatures often reach 18 to 22 degrees according to travel sites, which feels good for walks and sightseeing. The sea is still cool but warms up noticeably in May. The boat season begins, and in places like Marsalforn and Xlendi the restaurants gradually reopen.
Summer (June to August)
Hot and dry. In July and August average temperatures are about 27 to 29 degrees according to travel sites, on single days above 32. The sea reaches its highest values, roughly around 26 degrees in high summer. Beaches and boats are full, and good accommodation goes early. Many village festas fall in this period, with an illuminated church, fireworks and brass bands. 15 August (Santa Marija) is a holiday on which it gets especially busy.
Autumn (September to November)
The sea is still warm in September and October, the heat eases and crowds drop. Average temperatures are about 25 degrees in September and around 22 in November, say travel sites. From November rain and wind increase. Autumn suits anyone who wants to combine swimming and sightseeing.

Recommendation by trip type
Swimming and boats: June to September if you want warm water, or May and October for fewer crowds. Hiking and sightseeing: April, May, October. Diving: all year, and many centres also open in winter; the most pleasant conditions lie between May and October according to travel sites. Families: May, June, September, because heat and crowds are manageable. Quiet and lower prices: winter and late autumn, with weather risk.
Festa season and holidays
In summer almost every village celebrates its festa. Dates shift slightly each year. Ask your accommodation which village celebrates in your week. More in the guide. Around big holidays ferries and accommodation are busier, so plan earlier.
Booking and planning
If you travel in July or August, book accommodation and popular tours early. For spring and autumn, shorter-notice planning often works, though good houses still go fast. Choose free cancellation where possible. For the journey see the page getting there, for a first excursion Comino and the Blue Lagoon.
