Beach and water

For children, Ramla Bay with its soft sand is the most comfortable choice because the water shelves gently. According to travel sites children can build sandcastles there for hours, and the nearby Calypso's Cave sparks imagination with its legend. In Xlendi the sheltered bay is calm, and according to travel sites shallow areas suit snorkelling and pedalos. Rocky bays are harder for little ones but doable with water shoes. Always watch for flags, waves and current and never leave children unsupervised. More in our overview of beaches.

Trips that work well

A short boat ride is a highlight for many children, especially with a swim stop. Check that life jackets are available for your child's size. On Comino the shallow water is pleasant but the sun is strong and shade rare. The walls of the Citadel are exciting but not secured everywhere, so keep children by the hand. Travel sites name the old prison there as a vivid target.

Caves, crafts and playgrounds

In Xagħra there are underground stalactite caves, such as Xerri's Grotto and Ninu's Cave, which children love according to travel sites. In the Ta' Dbiegi crafts village near Għarb you can watch potters, glassblowers and weavers at work, and sometimes children can join in. For a play break, parks with playgrounds such as Villa Rundle Garden in Victoria suit. The Qbajjar promenade near Marsalforn is good for walking with the whole family.

Dwejra with a pushchair

Around Dwejra there is, according to reports, a family-friendly path that is mostly flat and also works with a pushchair. Keep children away from the shore edges though, and watch the surf in wind.

Heat and sun

In summer it is very hot at midday. Plan activities for morning and evening, bring hats and lots of water and look for shade. Spring and autumn are often more pleasant for families; see best time to visit. Travel sites name March to the end of October as the family season.
